It was a sign of her immense popularity and the esteem in which she was held that the Ballygarry House Hotel was full of family, friends and work colleagues on Friday (13th) evening, all of whom were there to honour retiring teacher Catherine Sugrue.

Catherine's family of her husband Joe, her son Joseph, her daughter Emma and Emma's husband Brendan Poff were present on the night to help send Catherine off into the sunset of retirement properly.

After 37 years teaching in Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh, Catherine decided that this was the year to put down the whiteboard markers, clean up her desk for the last time and let the next generation of educators to take up the post.

Catherine's teaching career began with a year in St Ita's & St Josephs before moving just a little ways down the road to Scoil Eoin, where she would spend the remainder of her career.

Catherine's time in Scoil Eoin will officially finish this coming Friday September 20 and despite no doubt immensely looking forward to a relaxing retirement, she will miss and will be missed in the day to day hustle and bustle of life in Scoil Eoin.
