Castle Bar sharps supporting hospice in Alice's memory

Castle Bar card sharps paid a moving tribute to a recently-deceased dear friend of theirs this week in the form of a €500 donation to the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The donation was made in memory of the late Alice O'Sullivan, from St Brendan's Park, who was a member of the Castle Bar Poker Club.

And it was her fellow members who presented Maura O'Sullivan of the Hospice Foundation with the cheque at the famous Rock Street establishment on Thursday - the day of the weekly club game.

The money will go towards the operational costs of the new Palliative Care Unit on the grounds of University Hospital Kerry - which is transforming the delivery of care for so many and all thanks to the hard-working fundraising efforts of the Hospice Foundation and all who support them across the county.

Poker Club member Edward O'Connor spoke movingly of his late club colleague at the presentation of the money on Thursday.

He said that with Alice's recent passing, and given that he had been involved with the club since it started nine years ago, all felt it was appropriate that they would acknowledge the caring and professional service Alice received there from the doctors, nurses and all the staff.

In accepting the cheque Maura O'Sullivan, on behalf of Kerry Hospice, said the donation was greatly appreciated and thanked all the members for their generous efforts in support of the Hospice mission.
