Carmel's memory lives on in youth blitz
Another fantastic year was had by young football players from all over North Kerry in an annual blitz remembered a beloved garda who died at a tragically young age.
But Carmel O'Connor's legacy lives on through the hard work of her colleagues organising the annual blitz in her memory each year - held at the Na Gaeil GAA Club grounds in Tralee.
2017 was no exception to the sporting fun as ten teams travelled in from Duagh to Abbeydorney and came from all points of Tralee, including the hosts, to vie for the fiercely-prized title.
Making the event even more special was the presence of Carmel's family - her husband David, daughter Katie, brother Anthony and granddaughter among the spectators.
"It was a great success once again and Carmel really came good for us with lovely weather," organiser Liz Twomey said, thanking the Community Policing Unit and the Red Cross for their support and help in running the event.
After the day's intense footballing, came a big treat for the girls as they got to meet one of their sporting - and now Strictly Come Dancing - heroes in the flesh as Garda Aidan O'Mahony presented each player with a medal for their efforts.
The Red Cross was meanwhile presented with a donation from the proceeds of the day.
