Callinafercy Rowing Club held its annual regatta on Sunday 21st at Ballykissane Pier and it turned out to be a most enjoyable day for both competitors and spectators. After a slight drop of rain early on, it cleared up to give a beautiful evening with perfect rowing conditions with some fantastic racing culminating in a wonderful Seine Boat Race. From the off Knockneen took the lead followed by Sneem and Valentia. As they approached the final rounding some 29minutes later, Knockneen were still in the lead followed by Valentia and Sneem.

There was a foul at the final rounding with Valentia coming away to win from Sneem with the very unlucky Knockneen in third place. In the final race of the day the senior men for the Jack McKenna Memorial Trophy was won by the crew of the 'El Nino' followed home by Sieve and Caherciveen. The trophy was presented to the winning Cox David Hussey by Mike McKenna son of the late Jack McKenna.

The club would like to thank a number of people for their help in running the regatta. The committee for the work they put in, Secretary Sheila Hurley, Treasurers, Gina Halliday and Mary O Sullivan and Margot Lawlor for the lovely food she provided for the people on the pier and out in the boat which contained the Judges, from Over the Water, Cromane And Callinafercy andMary B. Tehan who gave an excellent commentary on all the races from the boat and to John P O Sullivan for his commentary from the shore. Thanks to Heather and Eimear for manning the shop, Roisin for presenting the medals, to Joanna King for all the photographs she took on the day. Thanks to Paddy Lawlor and Daniel Hurley for collecting the road, Pa Murphy and Johanton Dunlea for directing the traffic, to Cathal Foley for providing a field for car parking. Thanks to all the local business for their support down through the years. A special word of thanks to Mike Scannell, who year on year provides his boat to put down the rounding buoys and for the judges on the day of the regatta. Thanks to John Joe O' Sullivan and Chairman James O' Sullivan for putting out the starting buoys and the rounding buoys. Also, a big thank you to everyone who helped clear up after the regatta and Danny and Chris for transporting the barriers to and from the pier.

The club now looks forward to the county championship 'One Design' which will be held in Waterville on Saturday 17th August.

CO. LEAGUE: Currow travelled to Listowel to play Emmets in R8 of the county league Saturday evening and came away with a share of the spoils.

Emmets were first on the scoreboard and were up 3 points before Currow's first score, a point from John Buckley, another point from Padraig O'Shea kept the scores close.

A long ball into Currow defence which was not dealt with and was scrambled to the net by Conor Cox and left the score, Listowel 1-4, Currow 0-2 after 16 minutes.

Mike McCarthy added 4 more points, 2 from play and 2 frees and Cox added 3 for Listowel, leaving halftime score, Listowel 1-7, Currow 0-6.

Throughout Seamus Scanlon was getting a lot of attention from his opponents which hampered the flow to the Currow full forward line.

The second half started with scores from John Buckley 2, Ian Somers 1, Dan O'Shea 1, John Daly 1.

By the 19th minute the score stood at Emmets 1-9, Currow 0-11 when Dan O'Shea won a great ball and raced through Emmets defence and goaled.
