The motion for debate was 'Ryanair is the BEST way to travel.' David, Ailíse and Oisín put forward some strong arguments to propose the motion and succeeded to win the debate. Two teams from Ardfert N.S. competed in the Tralee area quiz on Sunday last February 3rd in Ballyroe Hotel. Having won the U-13 section quiz in 2012 on their way to All-Ireland glory all eyes were on the Ardfert teams. Both teams got off to good starts with the U-11 team of Mairéad Kearney, Jessica Murphy, Rory Dalton and Sarah Lawlor scoring full points in the first three rounds to lead the field. The U-13 team of John McCrohan, Zyndir Griffin, Claudia Murphy and Sadbh Stack dropped just one and were well in competition. However they dropped some more as the contest progressed and didn't finish in the prizes. However, they can be very proud of their achievement. The U-11 team kept up their high standard of answering and finished ahead of the field to capture first place and therefore qualify to the county finals which will be held in Ballyroe on Sunday the 3rd of March. Well done agus go n-éirí libh sa chéad babhta eile.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE: On Tuesday last An tAthair Donnacha Ó Laocha visited the senior classes in Ardfert school and spoke to them about his experiences from his time in Africa. Fr.Leahy worked in the Kamwaura district in the catholic parish of Nakuru, n Kenya for eight years. When he returned to Ireland he was appointed parish priest of Ardfert. On St. Brigids Day 2001 he visited the school and was impressed with the little cottage industry he saw. The children in the senior classes were making St.Brigids crosses for their parents and neighbours. This tradition has continued in the school with all donations made from the distribution of the crosses being sent to the Africian parish.

Plans for the Asdee Primary School Reunion which will be held in conjunction with the National Gathering is progressing very well with a great programme of events being organised.

At the moment the organisers are looking for plenty of old school photographs which will be used in the journal they are planning to publish to coincide with the big event.

Meetings regarding the re-union are held at the community centre every Monday night so anyone that wants to play an active role in orgaisiing the event or have suggestions or photographs are welcome to attend.
