Volunteer run tourist kiosk back in action for summer

Simon Brouder

There are many signs that the summer tourist season has kicked off in Tralee but one of the most obvious is always the return of the tourist information kiosk on The Mall. The attractive little wooded kiosk returned to its regular location in front of Penny's last week - having been spruced up by the good people at the Tralee Men's Shed - and the kiosk opened for business on Monday.

The brainchild of Billy Nolan the kiosk was introduced back in 2012 and every summer the volunteers who run it have fielded around 4,000 enquiries from visitors and locals alike. This year around 25 volunteers - several of whom have manned the kiosk in the past - have signed up to staff the kiosk  which will be open and offering advice on all Tralee's attractions every day from 11am to 7pm.

While many volunteers have already signed up more are welcome and anyone who would like to get involved is encouraged to get in touch with Tralee Chamber Alliance. Volunteers of all ages - who will be briefed on all Tralee has to offer - must be available to do a minimum of a four hour shift guiding and directing tourists.  If you have some free time and would like to do your bit to support and promote Tralee you can email david@tralee.ie for  more information or drop in to Billy Nolan at Nolan and Hilsers Jewellers on Castle Street to sign up. Meanwhile the Tralee Square Market is also returning this week with craft and food stalls   in the Square every Thursday from this week until August 15 from 10am to 6pm. Similarly to the Tourist Information kiosk if you'd like to learn more or get involved just  email david@tralee.ie.
