"Ideal running conditions" is how Race Director Jim McNeice described last Saturday, as the Tralee man and his team staged four fantastic events, all of which were in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.

The day, which had four events for runners to choose from - a 100k, a 50k, a 10k and a half marathon - attracted 260 runners and Jim, speaking to speaking to The Kerryman on Monday, hailed the entire day as a huge success.

The success of the runs aside, Jim was keen to stress how much of a community effort went into Saturday's event as he singled out Danny Leane Jr in The Abbey Inn for all the support he had given organisers in the lead up to the event. "Anything we asked for, it was a yes - whether it was a room for a stewards or planning meeting, it was all positive," he said.

"Other runners too, like JJ O'Connell or Michelle Greaney, they were always on hand to help us out, whether it be just setting up water stops or being a steward, it was great to see others coming together to help each other out - and we would do the same for them as well," he continued.

Now into its fourteenth year, the run has continued to attract huge crowds to both Tralee and Kerry and Jim was keen to stress how beneficial the run has been both economically to local businesses and for tourism in the area. "We had runners staying in The Ashe Hotel and in The Imperial and we had people staying over in Killarney for a few days as well. Even the draw in the Abbey Inn on Saturday night, people came in, had a few drinks so this was extra business for the area as well," Jim continued. "The tourism benefits too were great. People got to see how beautiful the county is. The scenery around Fenit and Barrow was stunning. If just a few people can see that and think about coming back again with their family, that's a success," he finished.
