Listowel set for inaugural Threshing Day
Fans of vintage agricultural machinery and novelty sporting events had better keep their diary free for Listowel on Sunday on its first-ever Threshing Day in the very centre of town.
Everything from vintage machinery to hilarious events like tugs-o-war (for men and women), egg and spoon races and sack races to sheaf tossing and much more takes place on the day to ensure one great time for all ages.
"Our first ever Threshing Day takes place in the field next to the Listowel Garden Centre and we're hoping for a great turnout for an event we hope to run every year," organising committee member Martin McCarthy told The Kerryman.
The event is being run under the umbrella of the newly-formed Listowel Business and Community Alliance in the interests of giving the Fealeside town a bit of a boost in the otherwise quiet period between the Races and Christmas. Gates open at 12 noon (entry via the lane in front of the Garden Centre) - everyone is welcome.
