The town of Abbeyfeale turned pink last week with over 400 people taking part in the inaugural 'Feale the Pink' fundraising walk in aid of local breast cancer charities.

Now it seems, the west Limerick town is set to go red, with plans already in motion for the inaugural Santa's On The Run 5K, due to take place on December 1.

The aim of the fun run is to raise funds to purchase Christmas lights for the town - the appeal kicking off last week with the hugely successful Abbeyfeale Expo fundraiser.

This time, Breda O'Grady and her team at the Shakti Fitness & Wellness Studio have come on board to organise the event, and is urging as many people as possible to come out in their Christmas gear and help set the town alight.

Breda says that people can 'walk, run, slide or crawl' - whichever takes their fancy - and says that they are quite welcome to bring along some company - either of the two or four legged variety.

"Bring the dog, the deer or your nearest and dearest. Bring the whole family because it promises to be a fun day out," she said. "We are encouraging people to dress as their favourite holiday character or tradition, be it Santa, Mrs Claus, reindeer, elves, ornaments, Christmas trees or even candlesticks."

Anyone interested in taking part can simply register on the day at the Shakati Fitness Studio, which is located at St Ita's Road at the back of SuperValu. Registration is €10 per person and begins at 1 p.m.
