Get your thinking cap on for school quiz

IF your fancy yourself a whiz at quizzes and could do with an extra €1,000 then Spa National School has just the event for you.

This year the school is celebrating 50 years in its current location and to mark the occasion they've organised a special "Who wants to be a Thousandaire" quiz, based on the hugely popular Millionaire show, at the Ballyroe Hotel on March 16.

All money raised will go towards completing the final phase of the school's development plan, which includes the construction of a new play yard as well as the installation of a fully enclosed astro turf playing pitch at the school.

The organising committee has been working very hard on the preparations and are delighted to have signed up The Oyster Tavern, Ger Carmody Auctioneers, Atlantic Oils, Glenside Travel, Kerry Group PLC, Fitzgibbon Interiors, Ardfert Medical Centre, and Rochestown Park Hotel as the eight main sponsors for the big night.

"The 'Thousandaire' project has been a great success to date. We have received fantastic support with over 200 local businesses also coming on board as advertisers for the show," said Principal Peter Linehan.

A large crowd turned out for the launch of the event at The Oyster Tavern last Thursday evening when the school put on a demonstration to show how the game show will work on the night.

Quizmaster Francis Jones of Radio Kerry put Kerry stars Marc O Sé and Kieran Donaghy through their paces in the Thousandaire hot seat and, according to Mr Linehan, "the crowd absolutely loved it."

"There's a superb evening's entertainment lined up for March 16 with the full game show as well as music, dancing and a few other surprises for people to enjoy," he added.

Tickets for the event are priced at €15 and are available in Spa NS Contact Mary on 066 7136618 for details. Don't delay as tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
