Desmonds prepare to go the dogs
Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club officers, ladies, gentlemen and friends are going to the dogs and they mean it!
On Saturday, September 7th all roads will lead to the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium in Tralee for a great night of racing and fun activities.
"There will be ten super races and one of these may earn some lucky punter a €500 prize. Each ticket contains a number sequence of the order in which the six dogs will finish in one of the races. The holder of that ticket will have an especially enjoyable night. But in keeping with the culture of the Desmonds club this will also be a family orientated fun night. Families can enjoy a meal, a quiet drink and the odd flutter. There will also be fun relay races with children and their parents, bouncy castles, face painting and other activities," said Colm Kirwan in a note.
Tickets cost only €10 and can be purchased in some local shops or from any officer of the club. Alternatively people can ring 085 2477290 or e mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Naturally there is method in our madness," said Colm. "The proceeds from the night will be spent wisely and well for the benefit of hundreds of players - male and female - who play for the club.
It is widely recognised that Castleisland now boasts some of the finest playing pitches in Kerry. To maintain those high standards requires a significant investment. That is why the 'Desmonds Night at the Dogs' is being actively supported by the senior club, the ladies club and the juvenile wing of the Moanmore based, local institution and everybody benefits.
There is a great tradition of greyhound racing not only in Castleisland but also in the surrounding villages. We can, therefore, expect to see a fine 'Gathering of Greyhound Greats' on Saturday the 7th in Tralee. Gates open at 7pm," said Mr Kirwan.
