If you're going to play beach volleyball in Kerry, is there anywhere you'd rather play it than on a stunningly picturesque day on Ladies Beach in Ballybunion?

What a weekend it was then for the athletes and participants at Beach Volleyball Ireland's tournament as they set up shop for the weekend on the popular North Kerry beach. Never an event to draw a small crowd, the tournament was one of the biggest events of the year with record numbers of people coming in their droves to soak up the sport.

Saturday was as perfect a day as you get for playing on the beach with blue skies, no wind and the softest of sands lending themselves to a great day up at the net. Sunday, on the other hand, was a slightly more subdued day as the mixed sex participants felt the full effect of the Irish weather with a mixture of wind, rain and sunshine all in the space of a few hours. Finally, the Open Net sessions were a huge hit as excited and inspired juniors took to the task of learning how to play, with gusto. This was the third year of the tournament having being brought to the area first by Jimmy Deenihan and Beach Volleyball's Miriam Gormley.
