Garda HQ in Tralee maintains status

The Gardaí have confirmed that Tralee Garda Station will not be affected by a wide ranging shake-up of the organisation's operational structures.

A new operating policy set out by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris last month will see the number of garda divisions around the country reduced with several divisions to be amalgamated. As a result seven stations will lose their status as divisional headquarters.

The Kerry Division is largely unaffected by the changes and Tralee Garda Station will remain as the Divisional HQ.

Kerry will form part of a revised Southern Garda Region which now includes Kerry, Cork, Limerick as well as Clare and Tipperary.

The region will be overseen from a Regional Headquarters at Anglesea Street Garda Station in Cork City.

"Our new Operating Model will enhance investigation of crime through delivery of a greater range of specialised services in local areas such as the investigation of sexual crime, domestic violence, cyber crime, and economic crime," said Commissioner Harris.
