TG4 explores Cooney’s guitar magic
Australian guitarist Steve Cooney, who lived in West Kerry for many years as he honed his craft as a traditional musician, will featured on the Sé Mo Laoch series on TG4 on this Sunday, January 12.
The five-part series of music documentaries, produced by Dingle-based Aniar TV, tells the story of some of our greatest traditional musicians and singers including fiddler and broadcaster Paddy Glackin, flute player Patsy Hanly and accordion maestro Mairtín O'Connor.
The current series starts with Steve Cooney who was a regular at trad sessions in Dingle pubs after he moved to Ireland from Melbourne in 1981.
His collaboration with box player Seamus Begley brought a new energy to trad music and his particular style of guitar playing has set a standard for others to follow.
Sé Mo Laoch screens on Sunday at 9.30pm.
