Take a hike - to the Ballyheigue stage

Back by popular demand, the Ballyheigue Community Players invite one and all to the seaside resort this Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28, for what's promising to be a great production of John B Keane's The Year of the Hiker.

Set up by former Ballyheigue PP Fr Thomas Leane, the Players have had two productions previously, both also John B: Sive and The Field. Each played to over a thousand people, and audiences are eager for more.

This time the action focuses on the Hiker - the character who one day leaves the house for cigarettes and is never seen again until his dramatic return 20 years later in time for his daughter's wedding.

Reprising his star turns of recent years is Brendan Moriarty as the lead Hiker; alongisde Pat Sheehan and John Joe Duggans as the Hiker's sons; Mary Corridan as his wife, Mary; Treasa Falvey as his daughter, Kate; Cathy Curran as his sister, Freda and Stephen Flaherty as Mary's new husband.

Tickets are €10, with all proceeds going to the Community Centre. Doors open at 7.30pm, with curtains rising at 8pm.
