Saol ó Dheas to celebrate career of Seamus Begley

THIS Thursday RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will celebrate the life and times of Seamus Begley who will be bestowed with the honour of TG4 Traditional Singer of the Year at the Gradam Cheoil Awards this weekend in Limerick.

Séamus was named Amhránaí Traidisiúnta na Bliana TG4 last month and the prestigious award will be presented at a gala concert in the University of Limerick Concert Hall this Saturday, March 30. The event will be recorded for broadcast on TG4 on the following day, Easter Sunday.

A special edition of An Saol Ó Dheas will be broadcast on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta tomorrow (Thursday March 28) documenting the career of one of Corca Dhuibhne's best known musicians and singers.

"Séamus Ó Beaglaoich is a renowned singer with a large repertoire of songs in both English and Irish," a Raidió na Gaeltachta spokesperson told The Kerryman. "A member of the famous musical family from Baile na bPoc near Baile na nGall, he has been performing regularly over decades, bringing the singing of his native west Kerry to wider audiences."

"An Saol Ó Dheas on Thursday will bring together Seámus's family, including his wife Mary and daughter Méabh, his brother Breanndán, and other family and friends, to talk about the man himself and celebrate his achievements."

Helen Ní Shé will present this special edition of An Saol Ó Dheas on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta tomorrow at 12.08 pm. The programme will also be available online on the Raidió na Gaeltachta website.
