The annual 'Leap on your Bike' charity cycle is ready for its fourth run between Annascaul and Leixlip, County Kildare, and its organisers have called for participants to come out in force for a charity dear to their hearts.

The fun, bridge-to-bridge cycle covers a distance of some 333 kilometres, and it departs from Annascaul at 9.30am on the morning of Saturday, September 8. Participants must pay a €100 registration fee and fill out sponsorship cards, also to the value of €100.

Geraldine O'Shea Walsh is the sister of Cathal O'Shea - the cycle organiser and owner of the Salmon Leap Inn in Leixlip - and she said funds from the cycle will go to St John of God's. "St John of God's has given great service to our niece, Sarah, and a big focus of the cycle is to help the charity buy a new bus," she said.

"It's also to keep up the link between our family and Annascaul, where most of my family was born."

The cycle is a two-day event, with an overnight stop in Nenagh on September 8. Departure from the Tipperary town is at 9.30am, before the event finishes up in Leixlip and the Salmon Leap Inn later that day. There will be pit stops along the route for the cyclists to have a bite to eat and rehydrate.

These refreshments; and overnight accommodation in Annascaul on September 7 and Nenagh on September 8 are covered for the cyclists. Kennedy's Coaches, Annascaul, will leave Leixlip to bring participants from up the country to Annascaul ahead of the cycle, and the coach company will also run a service back to Annascaul after the cycle. Windsor Motors will run support vehicles to accompany the cycle.
