Orchestra in Killarney
The Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra returns to Killarney from January 12 to 14 for its annual workshop in the town, with a recital scheduled for 2.30pm on January 14 at the Mangerton Suite of the Gleneagle Hotel.
The band is only five-years-old, but it's already well-established. In its short lifetime, it has been one of the few acts invited to the prestigious Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Holland, and its members have worked with some of the best conductors and composers in Europe.
An invitational group of only 90 members, one of its founders is Killarney's Barbara Fleming, who started out with the town's very own Gleneagle Concert Band, and she is thrilled at the prospect of the group's upcoming performance in her town.
"This concert is a must for the many music lovers of Kerry and further afield," Barbara said. "It is a pleasure for me to bring the Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra back to my home town of Killarney this year, to where my own music career began.
"We hope to be able to inspire the next generation of musicians, and show what all the hard work and practice can achieve. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces in The Gleneagle Hotel in January"
