A talented young artist from Mercy Mounthawk school has said that he is simply "honoured" to have had his work recognised by a special merit award this past week.

Allen Ybanez received a special merit award in the B Category of the 2017 Texaco Art Competition and he says that receiving the award has been a welcome return on the hard work he put into the piece. "In my drawing, you are seeing the pointillism technique in use," said Allen, speaking to The Kerryman.

"I admire the impressionist painter Seurat's technique and I just decided to try it out. I spent three hours a night working on the piece and it took me two and a half weeks altogether to finish it."

"I'm very honoured to have received this special merit award," he finished.

"We are delighted for Allen and it is great to see his hard work and talent recognised," said teacher Ann O'Shea Daly this week.
