Listowel to host major theatre festival in 2019

There are exciting times ahead in Listowel next year, as the town prepares to play host to a major international Irish American theatre festival.

The Acting Irish International Theater Festival (AIITF) is set to be held in the town in April 2019. It is an annual festival of full-length Irish plays which are performed by community theatre companies from places such as Canada, the US and here in Ireland.

The festival was started back in 1994 and is hosted by a different member group each year.  Usually held in the US or Canada, the news that the festival will make its way here to Listowel is a major coup for North Kerry. With a history of playwrights and productions as extensive as Listowel's, it is no wonder that organisers chose to set up here in 2019.

"We are regular visitors here to Listowel, and we are big fans of all the writers that have come out of there - including, of course, John B Keane," they said. Further details on a schedule of events and tickets for the festival will be available closer to the time.
