Listowel on track for festive high aboard North Pole Express

Listowel is on a one-way ride to a festive bonanza this year as traders pull out all the stops, recreating the Lartigue Monorail as the Listowel North Pole Express and bringing in Dancing with the Stars victor Aidan O'Mahony to flick the switch on the Christmas lights.

The Kerry legend officiates at the lighting-up of the Christmas tree in the Square this Sunday, November 26, (at 5pm) - before an expected massive crowd and a RTÉ documentary crew there to film it all.

Just a couple of days before he performs the festive duty and another Christmas fantasy is being officially opened - the Listowel North Pole Express.

The Lartigue monorail on the John B Keane Road becomes Santa's personal wonderland - where the big man himself will be meeting the young every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting this weekend and over the first three weeks of December.

"At the North Pole Express, children and their parents will be greeted by the elves and brought along the Lartigue to post their letters to Santa," Listowel Trader spokesperson and top elf Jennifer Scanlan (third from left above) said. "Then it's off for story-telling and Christmas decoration making before going to meet Santa himself."
