Liam O'Connor described the atmosphere at his and Christy Dignam's impromptu flash-mob on Plunkett Street in Killarney last Tuesday as "amazing and surreal".

Normal life in the town was brought to a complete and utter standstill as the two iconic musicians decided - on three hours notice - to stage the busking session "to help give back to the people of Killarney".

The atmosphere was electric as crowds sang in unison with Christy excelling in his role as chorus conductor; tourists and locals alike sang their hearts out to 'Crazy World'.

Christy and Liam were helped on the night by Christy's daughter, Ciara; and Liam's children Oisín and Saoirse, with local musician Ciarán Healy lending his talents on guitar to the occasion as well.

"Christy was down for a few days here in Killarney with his family. We were having the craic, and I just came up with this idea of playing a few tunes, and Christy was well up for it," said Liam, speaking to The Kerryman on Friday.

"We wanted to do something for the people. We didn't want to do it in a venue or a bar. It was just great to see families and kids out on the street enjoying it.

"It was a wonderful event."
