A STELLAR cast, an age-old story and fantastic value for money for all the family appeared to be the recipe for success for the Listowel Pantomime Group, who performed their production of Aladdin to sell out crowds over the weekend.

The school hall at Scoil Réalta na Maidne was packed to capacity across all four nights of the show, with adults and children flocking to enjoy a post-Christmas treat before returning to school or work.

After a break from the stage last year, the local group was back with a bang in their hugely anticipated show, with local man Gearoid O'Connor playing the lead role. Local hair stylist, Danny Russell, was spectacular as the mother, Aladdin's love interest Jasmine was played wonderfully by the talented Aideen O'Conor, while Tina Enright was captivating as the story's baddie, Abanazar.

As well as the core cast of about 12 actors, the performance also featured several local children's groups under the watchful eye of children's director Jo Jordan.

The show's director, Pat Enright, said he and the 100 strong cast were thrilled with the sell-out crowds which were way up on the previous performance two years ago.

"The demand for tickets was fantastic and we had to put in a few extra seats each night, so we were thrilled with how it was received," he said.

"Of course, tickets prices were extremely reasonable at just €10 for adults and €5 for children, so that could explain the numbers."

Fresh from their sell-out shows in Listowel, the cast now brings the production to Ballybunion for a one night performance at the Tintean Theatre, this Saturday, January 11, at 7.30pm.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door but early booking is advisable on 068 22566.
