Culture Night 2020 will be different to what has gone before with none of the numerous live performances that have been a feature of previous years, but for anyone who tunes in there will be music and art and dance - on an online platform.
Culture Night is scheduled for this Friday, September 18, and the first event scheduled for West Kerry is Tonn-Fuaime (SoundWave), the brainchild of artist Áine Ní Chíobháin.
This combination of visual art and music begins with a specially curated music video by Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh with fellow musicians Emma Ní Fhíoruisce, Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, Gerry O'Beirne and Niamh Varian-Barry. The video will be broadcast on Áine's facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ainenich/ at 4pm.
The visual part of Tonn-Fuaime includes a mural in Pucaí's Lane by Domhnal Ó Bric, a temporary mural at Bín Bán strand by Ciara McKenna and a video entitled 'Tonnta' of the work of artists Deirdre McKenna, Ciara McKenna, Áine Ní Chíobháin, Tomáisín Ó Cíobháin, Honora O'Neill and Dómhnal Ó Bric, which will be screened on Ealaín na Gaeltachta's facebook page at 6.30pm.
Meanwhile in Dingle Hub, Silke Michels and Maggie Breen have put together a multi-disciplinary work centred on a topical question: "Can freedom be found in a two metre square space". Their work will be broadcast live on the Dingle Hub web page at 5pm.
Work from the artists in the short film 'Tonnta' are currently on display in Ionad an Bhlascaoid and this exhibition runs until September 25.
