All trad eyes on Lixnaw this weekend for 58th Féile Cheoil
'It's all about our culture and tradition of music, song, dance and our Irish language.'
That's the Lixnaw Féile Cheoil ethos in a nutshell and it's a mission the festival is continuing to uphold some 58 years since it was founded.
In an incredible run, the Lixnaw Féile Cheoil and the Lixnaw branch of Comhaltas Ceolteóirí na hÉireann have managed to pass on the baton of the trad arts from one generation to the next, seemingly growing ever stronger. The Féile Cheoil opens on Friday, June 14, with a trad session in Walsh's Bar, Lixnaw, with musicians, singers and dancers of all ages welcome. On Saturday open and confined step dancing competitions will take place in the Ceolann from 10am.
On Saturday night the féile concert will begin at 8pm sharp, featuring Cork's famous trad family, the Luceys alongside Lixnaw CCÉ musicians, singers and dancers. Then on Sunday, sean nós dancing competitions begin at 10am, and at 11am registration will take place for competitions in traditional music, singing and comhrá gaeilge.
These competitions attract people from near and far being held just one week before Fleadh Chiarraí.
"We must recognise and praise our young members when it comes to commitment and interest and the parents are absolutely fantastic with their ongoing input and encouragement," a spokesperson for the branch said. For more, contact Anne Fealy on (087) 6979334.
