A bba-rilliant glad-rag shindig at Exchange Inn

New Year's fancy dress craic at The Exchange Inn went right back to its '70s roots as a group of Abba-likes were crowned the winners of the annual party.

While Abba may have been in the charts when the fancy dress party began in 1979, it wasn't until nearly 40 years later the 'group' ventured into the Exchange in Ballybunion.

And what an impression they made - winning the night!

Almost 40 years after the late Chris and Christina Hellard started the competition in 1979 the legacy still lives on through the bar today.

"The competition gets bigger and better every year and the costumes get more and more creative," Katie Hellard said. The Hellard family credit the community and those who helped to start the competition Kieran Briscoe, the Lynch family and Mary Allen for its success.
