Cashen Vale’s boxing coaches Patrick O’Brien and Maurice Falvey are delighted with how their club is faring, after two of their boxers had wins in the finals of the 2023 Munster Schoolboy/Girl Championships in Dungarvan last Saturday.

Brooklyn Quilligan and Brooklyn O’Brien picked up two convincing debut victories, while Cillian Falvey bagged a silver medal after a gallant performance in his bout. Not since 2018 when Ryan Downey, Aaron McElligott, Donnacha Sayers, Aoife Stack and Kori O’Grady, has the club – which recently moved to a new premises in Clash Industrial Estate in Tralee – won a Munster Championship title.

Meanwhile, following the weigh in and draw at the 2023 Irish Athletic Third-level Boxing Association (IATBA) Championships in Dublin last Saturday Ryan Downey (Cashen Vale BC and University of Limerick) was declared a winner of the uncontested categories. Having trained hard these past months, the Ballybunion native was disappointed that he had no competition on this occasion.

In the meantime, it will be more training and hopefully some Box-cups until the National Senior Championships next October, which is the one Downey is really focused on.
