120 new jobs for Tralee at hotels and TV station

Tralee has received a major boost in the last week following news that 120 new jobs are to be created in the town in the coming months.

Jobs will be created at two hotels, a TV station and a financial services firm.

It is expected that most of the jobs will be filled by early April.

The news has been greeted with elation in Tralee, which has long been regarded as an unemployment black spot and where the number signing on currently stands at 5,528.

The biggest job announcement was made by Tralee publican Der O'Sullivan, owner of The Mall Tavern in Tralee and Der O'Sullivans cafe and deli in Killarney.

Mr O'Sullivan and his family recently purchased Benners Hotel on Castle Street and this week he announced the hotel was due to reopen on March 1 with the creation of 50 new jobs.

Meanwhile Boyle Brothers, who purchased the former Tralee Central Hotel premises last October, have confirmed that the as yet unnamed hotel will open in early April and will create around 40 jobs.

Boyle Brothers already own and run the Manor West Hotel on the eastern outskirts of Tralee.

In addition to the hotel jobs, new positions have also been created by satellite TV station Irish TV and financial services firm Acorn Life.

Irish TV is creating 20 new jobs, in a range of skilled media disciplines, at its newly opened Munster Hub at the Tom Crean Business Centre in Kerry Technology Park.

Meanwhile Acorn Life Group announced on Tuesday that 10 new jobs will be created at its Kerry office on Ashe Street as part of a national expansion by the group.
