Wolves star Stearman to declare for Ireland

WOLVES defender Richard Stearman could be in line for an Ireland call-up after he completed the first step towards confirming his Irish eligibility.

The 25-year-old has played for his native England at underage level, most recently appearing for England's U21s in 2009, but Stearman has an Irish grandparent and has expressed his eagerness to play for the Republic.

Now Wolves team-mate Stephen Hunt has revealed that Stearman has obtained an Irish passport, the first step towards a full declaration for Ireland.

Because of his time playing for England's underage teams, Stearman has to complete a process with FIFA to switch allegiance to Ireland. But it's thought that the player is eager to do this and link up with Molineux team-mates Kevin Doyle, Stephen Ward and Hunt in the Irish set-up.
