Warmer days ahead, but bring an umbrella

By Alan O'Keeffe

Warmer days later this week should usher in some welcome summer sunshine.

A Met Eireann forecaster said there will be more opportunities for barbecues on Thursday and Friday - but keep an umbrella handy.

There are some signs that temperatures may climb as high as 24C on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

But they will be below normal for the time of year today and tomorrow.

Today will be fresh with a mixture of cloudy periods and sunny spells.

Some showers today will be heavy, with thundery downpours in places.

Top temperatures of 15C to 18C are expected.

Showers will ease off tonight, but rain and drizzle will arrive along the west coast by tomorrow morning.

There will be outbreaks of rain early tomorrow. Some of the showers will be heavy and there is the risk of thunder. The showers will die off later in the evening. Temperatures will climb to only 16C to 19C.

A dry, bright start to Wednesday will become cloudier in western coastal counties, with some patchy rain and drizzle. Elsewhere, it should stay dry. Top temperatures may reach 20C.

There will be some light showers on Thursday, but many places look like staying dry with a high of 21C. Friday will be slightly warmer.
