Victim of attack left fighting for his life

A man is fighting for his life after he sustained serious head injuries during a vicious assault.

The victim was one of three men who were attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

They were on Standhouse Road at around 3.20am when they were confronted by a group of up to six men. An attack took place on the street and the victim was violently assaulted.

The seriously injured man was rushed to Naas General Hospital's intensive care unit.

His condition was described by the hospital this morning as "critical but stable".

A garda spokesman confirmed they are investigating a serious assault.

"Three males were assaulted on Standhouse Road by a group of up to six males, who were part of a larger group consisting of males and females," he said.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 3am and 4am on October 31 to contact the gardai at Newbridge 045-440180, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
