Two men have been sent for trial charged with the murder of father-of-one David 'Daithi' Douglas, the ninth victim of the ongoing feud between the Hutch and Kinahan crime groups.

Nathan Foley (18) was served with the book of evidence when he appeared before Dublin District Court.

Frederick Thompson (36) received his book of evidence when he appeared before Cloverhill District Court.

Charged

Mr Thompson, of Loreto Road, and Mr Foley, of Rosary Road, both in Maryland, Dublin 8, are charged with the murder of 55-year-old Mr Douglas at Bridgefoot Street in Dublin's Liberties on July 1 last year.

The father-of-one was standing outside his wife's shop when he was shot a number of times in the head and chest.

He was rushed to St James's Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Mr Foley is also facing a second charge of damaging a car at Strand Road, Dublin 4, three days later.

The two men were sent forward for trial to a sitting of the non-jury Special Criminal Court.

In relation to Mr Foley, Detective Sergeant Paul Murphy said he arrested and charged the defendant before court with the murder of Mr Douglas.

He was handed a true copy of the charge sheet and he made no reply to the charge after caution.

A State solicitor said the DPP has directed trial on indictment on the charges.

Det Sgt Murphy said the book of evidence was ready and had been served on the accused.

Bail

Judge Michael Walsh sent Mr Foley forward for trial to a sitting of the Special Criminal Court.

Defence solicitor Matthew deCourcy said Mr Foley was not working and the judge assigned two counsel on free legal aid.

There was no application for bail, as only the High Court can grant bail on a murder charge.

Judge Victor Blake, sitting at Cloverhill courthouse, sent Mr Thompson forward for trial.

He also gave Mr Thompson the formal alibi caution.
