Two dead as car plunges 1,000ft

Two British men in their twenties have died after their car tumbled nearly 1,000ft down steep terrain after breaking through a guard rail on an alpine road.

Austrian police said the accident apparently occurred as the two were racing another car on a stretch of road more than 8,000ft above sea level.

Police said one of the men was 22 and the other 25.

They have not yet been identified.

They lost control of their car near the village of Fusch, 60 miles east of Innsbruck.
