TRIBUTES have flooded in for champion jockey AP McCoy, who has secured a massive 4,000 winners under his belt.

The greatest jump jockey of all time said he feels remarkably lucky to have reached the statistic in his record-breaking career.

And AP reached the milestone on the day before his daughter Eve's sixth birthday.

He said: "She said to me I'd better ride my 4,000th winner today, before her birthday.

"She didn't want anyone taking the glamour away from her on her birthday day. That'll keep me happy. It was most important."

Congratulations poured in from across the sporting world and beyond.

Owner JP McManus said that he was over the moon at the jockey's success.

He added: "I'm so happy for AP. I'm so proud of him.".

Ex-footballer Gary Lineker said it was "one of the great sporting achievements of our time". He added: "An utterly miraculous effort."

And former Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given described it as an "unreal achievement never to be beaten".
