Trap: Scots pair way-off

GIOVANNI Trapattoni has admitted that a call-up to the Ireland squad for Scottish-based strikers Adam Rooney and Conor Sammon is a long way off.

Irish players are struggling for goals in the top two divisions in England this season - our top scorer in the English Premier League is Stoke's Jonathan Walters with just four goals while Liam Lawrence (7) is our top scorer in the Championship, but Dubliners Sammon (Kilmarnock) and Rooney (Inverness) have scored 27 goals between them.

Both men have already played at U21 level but Trapattoni sees the pair as way down the pecking order with Ireland.

"We have Jonathan Walters, Caleb Folan, Robbie Keane, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle. We have good options," he said when asked if he'd consider taking a look at Rooney for February's international against Wales in Dublin.

CASH-STRAPPED Plymouth Argyle have sent Ireland U19 cap Sean Kinsella on loan to non-legaue side Stafford Rangers.

Kinsella, who has yet to play for the first team at Plymouth, has already been on loan to Bridgwater Town this season.
