Temple Street's story is part of Dublin's soul
A NEW book celebrating Temple Street Children's Hospital and its history in Dublin was given a boost by Herald readers and their knowledge of the facility across many generations, says its author.
Dublin historian Dr Barry Kennerk has done everything in the hospital from mopping the floors and working as a kitchen porter - right up to today where he is an administrator for the neurosurgeons.
"My dad was the maintenance man there for 20 years, so I have memories from my childhood, and I have been the worried parent with my own kids there too," he said.
Barry has thanked Herald readers for responding to his appeal for help in supplying their memories for the book, which features over 80 photographs and interviews with past staff and patients.
Temple Street Children's Hospital - An Illustrated History is published by New Island Books.
