Teens accused of bat attack

FOUR youths have been served with books of evidence at Dublin Children's Court and were sent forward for trial in connection with an alleged baseball bat attack on a man.

The teenage defendants, aged 16 to 18, are accused of assault causing harm to a man (now 20), in north Co Dublin, on a date in August, 2008.

They are also charged with using baseball bats as weapons in connection with the alleged incident.

Garda Laura King had told Judge Bryan Smyth that the complainant was hospitalised and received stitching to the back of his head.

Youth misses assault trial

A BENCH warrant has been issued for the arrest of a teenager accused of attacking a Chinese national.

The north Dublin boy (17) did not turn up for his trial at the Children's Court.

He had pleaded not guilty earlier to assaulting the man (26) at Mountjoy Square North on August 18, 2007.

His case was due for hearing yesterday and the State was ready to proceed.

Judge Bryan Smyth noted that there was no explanation for the teen's not being present.

US gunman believed dead

The man suspected of a workplace shooting, which left four people dead and five others injured, was believed to be among the victims.

Fire brigade officials identified the gunman as Timothy Hendron (51), of Webster Groves, Missouri.

Police would not release his name, but said a man believed to be the gunman was found dead inside ABB Group's plant in St Louis from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The shooting began at 6.30am yesterday.

Man dies from 'toxic cocktail'

A woman is accused of mixing up a batch of antifreeze-laced margaritas for her live-in boyfriend, who died four days after drinking the toxic cocktail.

New York State police arrested Cynthia Galens (51), of Farmington, and charged her with second-degree murder in the death of Thomas Stack (47).

On October 3, medics sent to the couple's home took an unresponsive Mr Stack to the hospital, where he died.
