Teen tried to make boy drink urine

A YOUTH who tried to force a 15-year-old boy to drink a can of urine and threatened to kill him has been placed under house arrest.

The 17-year-old had pleaded guilty earlier at the Dublin Children's Court to robbery of the boy and threatening to kill or cause him serious harm, at Queen's Road, Dun Laoghaire, on July 21 last year.

His case resumed yesterday where Judge Clare Leonard described the crime as "beyond belief". Pending sentencing, she agreed to grant bail to the youth who had been remanded in custody earlier.

However, she stipulated that he was to be under "house arrest" and only allowed out in public when he is with his parents or attending counselling for drug and alcohol abuse, and a training course.

The teenager was also banned from associating with more than a dozen youths. His parents had been concerned about the people he had been associating with including a man in his 50s with whom he had been drinking and smoking cannabis.

Judge Leonard said that getting bail did not mean the teen would not be detained for his offences. She sought an updated probation report and adjourned sentencing until next month.
