Teen took part in gang attack

A YOUTH is to get a caution instead of going on trial and facing a possible sentence for his role in a gang attack on a student in Dublin city centre.

The 17-year-old had been charged at the Dublin Children's Court with violent disorder, with five others, at Wexford Street on January 9 last year.

Judge Ann Ryan heard that the court prosecution was to be withdrawn because the teenager has been found suitable to be dealt with through the Garda Juvenile Diversion Programme.

This can allow a youth, if he admits an offence, to be cautioned instead of facing trial and a possible criminal conviction and custodial sentence.

The court had heard the victim had been pelted with eggs before he was set upon.

Lilla (11) picked

for Annie role

Broadway's newest Annie is an 11-year-old from Los Angeles who is already a Broadway veteran.

Lilla Crawford will play the title role in a revival of the Tony Award-winning musical Annie.

"I'm not nervous, but I am definitely so excited to start the whole process," Lilla said. "It's going to be so fun."

The musical is the tale of the Depression-era orphan girl who finds happiness with a grouchy millionaire and a lovable dog.

Other actresses who have had their start in Annie include Sarah Jessica Parker and Molly Ringwald.

Crawford beat more than 5,000 other girls for the part.
