Suspect denies he raped teen

A MAN has gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court accused of the rape and sexual assault of a teenager.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault of the then 15-year-old girl on dates between February 8 and 9, 2008 in an apartment in Tipperary.

John O'Kelly, prosecuting, said it was the State's case that in the early hours of the morning of February 9, 2008, the girl was raped by the man, who was a family friend, in his bedroom.

The trial continues.

Sharks in for quite a shock

The Australian navy has bought 140 shark repellent devices to protect its divers following an attack in Sydney Harbour last year that cost a diver his hand and leg.

The Shark Shield, which emits electric pulses that keep sharks at least seven yards away, is now part of the equipment carried by divers and swimmers in training and operations with the navy.
