Strycova into quarter-final
Third-seeded Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic secured a place in the Swedish Open quarterfinals by beating Russia's Evgeniya Rodina 6-4, 6-1.
Strycova next faces Swedish seventh-seed Johanna Larsson, who beat Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-3, 7-5.
In other second round games at Bastad, Rebecca Peterson claimed her second WTA win with a surprise victory over sixth-seeded Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. She will meet the defending champion and No 4 seed Mona Barthel.
Klara Koukalova advanced to the quarterfinals by a walkover after top-ranked Serena Williams withdrew ahead of their second-round meeting, citing a right elbow injury during practice yesterday. Koukalova meets Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva, who beat Alize Lim of France 6-0, 1-6, 6-2.
