Stolen car used by duo who killed OAP seized

Gardai investigating the hit-and-run death of an 81-year-old man have seized a third car which they believe was stolen by the Traveller criminals involved in last Monday's reckless crimewave.

A manhunt is continuing for the two cousins from Co Wicklow who were in a stolen Volvo car that crashed into a vehicle being driven by pensioner Jim Brennan near Ferns, Co Wexford.

There were scenes of huge grief yesterday at Mr Brennan's funeral in Castledockrell, Co Wexford, as gardai continued to hunt for the Traveller suspects.

Mr Brennan and his partner, Bernie, were returning home from bingo in Ferns when their car was struck by a stolen vehicle with the two occupants fleeing the scene.

The latest breakthrough in the case happened late on Thursday night when a BMW car was found at the St Aidan's Villas estate in Enniscorthy.

The car was being forensically examined last night and is understood to have been parked at that location for a number of days.

Gardai believe that the BMW was stolen from a farmer in Monageer, Wexford, in the early hours of Tuesday morning and used to transport the criminals to Enniscorthy.

After being involved in the collision, the suspects stole a Passat car from another farmer in the Ferns area before they stole the BMW.
