St Mirren exit looms for Mehmet Dillon calms form worries

FORMER Ireland U21 cap Billy Mehmet is poised to leave SPL side St Mirren despite scoring the goals that helped them avoid relegation.

Mehmet scored 11 times for the Buddies last season but so far has not been offered a new deal, and that has sparked interest from SPL rivals Hearts and Aberdeen, while Rangers have also been mentioned as a possible destination for the striker.

"A contract has never been put in front of me," said Mehmet, capped once at U21 level by Ireland in 2004. "Right now I just want to get away and let my agent take care of that side of it. I have enjoyed my time with St Mirren. I like to think I have established myself in the SPL as a striker who can do a job at this level."

Dillon calms form worries

FORMER Shelbourne star Sean Dillon believes that his Dundee United side will shrug aside their poor league form in time for Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Ross County.

The Tannadice club go into the final at Hampden Park without a win in their last four league games, but Dubliner Dillon feels that United will turn on the style when it counts.

"Since we've cemented third place, we have not been where we want performance-wise," said Dillon, an FAI Cup winner with Longford Town in 2003.

"Come Saturday, though, you'll see the real United."
