St Ledger in boost for Irish hopes

SEAN ST LEDGER is poised to make a return to action with Leicester City tonight, handing Giovanni Trapattoni a boost ahead of next month's World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

St Ledger has missed the last four internationals, and 23 club matches, due to a hamstring injury.

But Leicester have confirmed that St Ledger, along with fellow injury victim Zak Whitbread, will be in the squad for their meeting with Charlton tonight.

"They have both trained fully for a couple of weeks and have had a few U-21 games," said City's assistant manager Craig Shakespeare.

Trapattoni has four weeks to prepare for the vital game in Sweden. He has a number of worries at the back, with defenders St Ledger, Richard Dunne, Stephen Ward, Marc Wilson, Paul McShane, Greg Cunningham and Seamus Coleman all carrying injuries.
