GOALKEEPER David Forde says he is convinced that Ireland will make it to the World Cup finals in Rio next summer.
And the 33-year-old believes that Ireland's recent positive performances will have sent "shockwaves" to Group C rivals Sweden and Austria.
Ireland face Sweden in Dublin on September 6 and then head for Austria four days later with all three sides currently on 11 points and battling to reach the play-offs as group runners-up.
And Forde says he can't wait for those games to come about.
"September is going to be huge," said Forde. "They are great games to be playing in, Sweden at home and Austria away, and they will probably be the deciders as well.
"I think we have sent out a few shockwaves to those nations. They know all about us now and that we are in with a good chance.
"I certainly think we will finish second for that qualifying spot and go to Rio.
"It's looking like an exciting time again for Irish football, especially after the lows of the last few months."
