Turning Minor to major is the noble Dublin dictum

MARTIN McDonnell did a first-class job with the Dublin Minors this year.

Cork beat them in Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final. Cork will meet Galway in the final.

Yet Dublin can look back on some sunny days when their football took the breath away.

There was a wonderful atmosphere in the camp. That came from the top.

Martin didn't look for the clip-board when he delivered his team-talk - take pride in the jersey and do your best.

Many of Martin's Marvels will progress. Just like other minor players over the years.

And in the words of senior supremo, Greg McGonigle, that's what it's all about.

Developing players, rather than polishing trophies, is the name of the underage game.

Dublin last lifted Minor gold under Fintan O'Curry in 2012. Conor Barry continued the good work.

Last Sunday in Carlow, many of their pupils were playing for the Leinster champions - names like Ciara Trant, Olwen Carey, Muireann Ni Scanaill, Molly Lamb, Sarah McCaffrey, Carla Rowe and Niamh Rickard.

Looking on was the former President, Pat Quill, the new chief, Marie Hickey and the Leinster Leader, Finbarr O'Driscoll.

And they all gave the Royal seal of approval to Dublin's noble efforts of bringing young players through.
