Temp Head - Newcomer Michael Burke from Presentation

Newcomer Michael Burke from Presentation College, Athenry caused quite a stir at the Leinster Schools Indoor Shoot hosted by St Michael's in Ballsbridge, Dublin.

Competing in his first ever competition, Burke, who is self taught, was put in the B class. He promptly won promotion to the A grade with a superb score of 517.

Behind him in the same B grade, Cillian ó Feinneadha continued his steady improvement this year with a score of 480 – 19 points off promotion and a big improvement on the 447 he scored at the last shoot. It was also enough to beat his teammate Luke Kilmartin, who had finished second last time.

Another eye-catching display came from Justin Samson of St Brendan's in Bray. His score of 457 to win the D class means he will move up to the C grade.

Winning the elite class was Karl McCaffrey of Oatlands, the dominant school in archery at the moment. His score of 469 was his best so far this season421.

Best of the girls was Niamh O'Brien of St Brendan's who shot 428 to win the C class.
