Mullen and Bonfil fire determined Plunkett's to glory

ST OLIVER PLUNKETT'S/EOGHAN RUADH ...... 2-13

CRUMLIN .1-9

AN in-form St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh produced an exceptional second-half display when overcoming Crumlin by seven points in their Dublin Senior Hurling Championship 'A' Group B encounter at Parnell Park last night.

Plunkett's fell behind at the start of the second-half thanks to two glorious points by the exceptional Adam McGreal but they gradually reeled in their opponents, hitting some wonderful scores en route to a deserved victory. Central to their victory was the dominance provided at centre-back by Patrick Bergin, who mirrored the quality of his performance in their opening round win over Faughs, landing an inspirational point in the first-half to critically end a sequence of Crumlin scores.

Shane Bonfil was another to shine for the winners, hitting four points over the hour, including a brace of scores at the end of the third quarter that helped turn the tide in his side's favour.

After an even opening in which Bonfil and Stuart Mullen traded scores with McGreal and Wes O'Brien, Plunkett's landed the first body blow as a Mullen shot was diverted into the net by full-forward Niall Murray, with Crumlin's protests that the ball had gone over the crossbar falling on deaf ears.

Colm Hennebry and McGreal replied for Crumlin but another long delivery saw Mullen turn adroitly and rifle an unstoppable shot beyond Alex Quinn from eight metres in the 11th minute.

McGreal, whose first touch and accuracy were a joy to behold, narrowed his side's arrears with a well-taken goal eight minutes later although a late Mullen free ensured a narrow 2-4 to 1-6 interval lead for Plunkett's.

Bonfil's influence increased as the second-half progressed and despite the dismissal of Kevin Sexton for a second caution, the Navan Road men pulled clear through late scores from Liam Corbett and prominent substitute Oisin Boland.
