Temp Head - Crokes boss Gallagher buoyed by

Crokes boss Gallagher buoyed by potentialDUBLIN'S future is in safe hands ... and feet.

That's the considered verdict of the man that led Kilmacud Crokes to Dublin minor championship glory, Donal Gallagher.

He is basing his judgement on the quality of football he has seen in the county's bustling underage structure.

Dublin are not All-Ireland champions for nothing. First-class footballers didn't just tumble from the trees.

"Look at last year's Dublin minor championship final between ourselves and St Margaret's. It was fabulous stuff," recounts Donal, who managed the side with Daphne Lamb, Mark Regan and Dave Byrne.

"I thought both teams were brilliant. The tempo of the game was just fantastic.

"In every corner of the pitch, the players battled for every ball.

"There was so much intensity there. Football was the winner," stressed Donal.

"Margaret's are a super team. One of the best around. We have had some wonderful clashes over the years.

"There is never more than a kick of a ball between us. And its games like that which help to make players better."

Both clubs are well represented in Dublin ranks. Both keep chiselling away at the coalface.

"Many of our girls are minor again this season," he confirms. "And we have girls who have played with the county at U14, U16 and minor levels.

Talent

"We have a good number few involved with the present Dublin minor squad, so hopefully things will go well for them. We certainly don't lack talent in our group.

"Recalling the night of the final at St Margaret's, we had several players who were so keen to get on, but who didn't. I felt sorry for them because they are worth their place on any team.

"We just didn't get the chance to give them a run in the final.

"I have to compliment the dedication of the entire squad.

"They put in such a huge effort last year.

"We have been unlucky in the last couple of years. We have been in numerous finals and they were so determined to win it this time.

"They certainly deserved their success. They are just a super group.

"A delight to work with. We were all thrilled for them."
