AS the late, great David Coleman used to say, goals pay the rent. Kevin McManamon got three of them at O'Toole Park yesterday.

The hat-trick was a crucial factor in St Jude's progressing to the last four of the championship where they will meet St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh.

Watched by a big crowd, it was a ticket they richly deserved. From the off, Jude's were humming all over the stage.

Brigid's didn't lack possession, but the Tymon road-blocks were everywhere.

Brigid's didn't score their first point till first half injury-time. It came from the fist of Daire Plunkett.

Nobody had tried harder to get the Russell Park men going.

Jude's had the wind which blew into the road end before the break. McManamon's first goal came on 20 minutes as he cut in on the left.

Brigid's best chance of a first half goal arrived when Plunkett released Mark Cahill but the shot went wide.

Seconds into the second period, McManamon pounced for his second goal, tucking the ball inside the right-hand post.

And his third goal, seven minutes later, was a delightful slice of skill as he robbed the ball, danced a little jig and guided the ball to the basket.

That made it 3-7 to 0-3 for Jude's. Brigid's were looking at a tall mountain. A very tall one.

Despite the accuracy of Emlyn Hughes from placed ball they were never likely to mount a serious challenge as the Tymon North men advanced to the last-four.
